The purpose of this research is to look into global entrepreneurship far and wide based on a newly developed conceptual model. KEF had developed the model covering a wide range of entrepreneurial aspects. It measures from an entrepreneurship education to failure and recovery afterwards, which directly and indirectly influence on the entrepreneurship ecosystem of a country. It also focused on individual and organizational perceptions on the entrepreneurship to differentiate other researches that had focused on visible outcomes of the entrepreneurship.
The countries in this survey included 10 countries: Asia - South Korea, Japan, China, India, Singapore; Europe - UK, Germany; the Americas - the U.S., Brazil; Africa - South Africa. The subjects were selected in an even global distribution considering GDP. The present study has sampled overall 20,062 participants (at least 2,000 per country). A stratified sampling was used by demographic groups for the first sampling and quotas were then set up for sex and age ratios for the second sampling. The sampling error was ±2.19%p (95% CI).
The present research used a questionnaire that reflects the process and environment aspects of entrepreneurship in a balanced way. It did not only focus on visible outcomes of entrepreneurial activities such as number of startups, but also included questions regarding the determinant factors and startups environment in order to diagnose the strengths and weaknesses of the entrepreneurship environment.
In general, individual level entrepreneurship received 68.2 point out of 100 points: South Africa ranked highest (74.7 points) and Japan ranked lowest (55.5 points). Each of individual level entrepreneurship and organizational level entrepreneurship in this research includes four factors: challenging spirit, creativity/innovation, leadership, and value orientation. Each of these factors consists of 6-10 questions.
Organizational level entrepreneurship obtained 64.2 points out of 100 points: India ranked highest (72.6 points) and Japan ranked lowest (54.3 points).
